Electronic chip wristsbands trials at Wakestock Festival 2012

For the very first time Wakestock festival makes every fan wear microchip devices. Electronic wristbands had been used for the first time at a UK festival.

The chips wore by the fans on wrist is similar to London's Oyster card syste, reports BBC Newsbeat.

On the small  pocket of festival goers this system had been used at the Isle Of Wight and the recent Red Hot Chili Peppers gig at Knebworth. But this is the debut time every fan has had to wear one in the UK.

Revellers, who are scanned in and out of areas at the site through turnstiles or hand-held devices, can pre-load the wristbands with money to pay for food and drink, and check into social networks.

Organisers at the event, which this year was headlined by Calvin Harris, Dizzee Rascal and Ed Sheeran, are also able to monitor how many festival-goers are onsite.
